How many counterfeit watches and clocks are found?

Many of counterfeit watches and clocks are produced abroad, and a part of them are illegally imported into Japan.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Finance, the number of cases in which counterfeit watches were seized by customs in 2025 totaled 915, representing a decrease of approximately 42% compared to 2024.
The number of seizures of counterfeit goods has been on a downward trend for three consecutive years since 2022.
This is believed to be the result of laws amended to strengthen the crackdown on counterfeit goods (the Trademark Act, the Design Act, and the Customs Act), which came into effect in October 2022 and are now having an impact.
