1:The Japan China Horological Associations Interchange (February 20):
The third meeting of JCWA and the Horologe Association of P.R. China was held in Xian, P.R.China on February 20. Present were representatives (Chairman, Vice Chairman and executives) from both the Japanese and Chinese watch and clock associations, and they exchanged opinions and information on common issues such as quality standardization, international trade relations, protection of intellectual property rights, etc. Both of the associations agreed to have the next meeting in Tokyo.
2:Three Associations Interchange on intellectual property rights (IPR)(March 12):
The meeting on the IPR protection was held on March 12 with the attendants from three associations: JCWA, All Japan Stationery Association, and The Japan Toy Association. The recent activities by the IPR committee of each association were reported, and, opinions and information were exchanged on the IPR issues at the meeting
3:Announcement of the 2003 Report on Global Operation of the Japanese Watch & Clock Industry (March 17):
JCWA introduced a report on the production and export in the global operations of the Japanese watch and clock industry in 2003, as well as the estimated worldwide production of watches and clocks. The total production of watches produced in Japan and overseas plants in 2003 increased in unit and slightly decreased in value in comparison with the previous year. The total production of clocks produced in Japan and overseas plants in 2003 decreased in both unit and value in comparison with the previous year. Leaflets containing data were handed out to the press during the Basel Fair held in April (Switzerland: April 15-22, 2004).

4:The 6th International Basel Conference of the Watch and Clock industry (April 16):
The Fifth International Basel Conference of the Watch and Clock Organizations was held on April 16 during the Basel Fair (BASELWORLD, April 15 through 22) in Switzerland. Delegates from major watch and clock organizations came from 8countries/region including Japan, Korea, P.R. China, Hong Kong, Switzerland, UK, France, Italy, and U.S.A. However, the delegates from Germany did not attend the conference. The delegates discussed agenda items including watch and clock tariff abolition, protection of environment etc.
5:The 22nd JCWA Ordinary General Meeting (May 26):
The report on the business plan and balance sheet, for fiscal year 2003, was approved at the 22nd Ordinary General Meeting held on May 26. The fiscal year 2004 plan for the business and budget scheme was also approved at the meeting.
Furthermore,Mr. Kenichiro Kawai was appointed as new officer (Auditor) succeeding Mr.Kunihiro Shimazaki. The new appointment was a reflexion of the change of President from Mr. Shimazaki to Mr. Kawai in Orient Watch Co. Ltd.
6:Japan China Intellectual Property Rights Workshop (September 27 through 30):
The 3rd workshop on intellectual property rights (IPR) was held in Shanghai, P. R. China based on an agreement made at the summit meeting of the Japan China Horological Associations Interchange, for the purpose of discussing issues involving intellectual property rights with experts of IPR in the Horologe Association of the P. R. China. From JCWA, seven members from the IPR committee and secretariat were dispatched to Shanghai for the workshop to exchange opinions and information relating to recent infringements of intellectual property rights in P. R. China, countermeasures taken, possible improvements and other related issues.
7:Participation in the 15th Asian Horological Trade and Industry Promotion Conference (October 18 to 19):
A biannual regular meeting of the horological trade and industry associations from major Asian countries/regions (China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, etc.) was held in Singapore, attended by 196 participants (of which 24 participants attended from Japan). In the general meeting and workshops held during a two-day session of the conference, participants exchanged opinions and information on the theme "The Changing Times of the Asia Watch Industry". It was decided that the next meeting of the Conference should be held in Japan in 2006.
8:Donation of Table & Wall Clocks for Niigata Chuetsu Earthquake Victims (November 8)
JCWA decided to donate 3,000 pieces of Table (with alarm) clocks and 1,500 pieces of Wall clocks for the victims of the earthquakes which recently hit the Chuetsu region in Niigata Prefecture. The donation was endorsed by the following JCWA member companies: Casio Computer Co., Ltd., Citizen Watch Co., Ltd., Seiko Watch Corporation, Seiko Clock Inc., and Rhythm Watch Co., Ltd. The clocks were delivered to the Niigata Prefecture Emergency Taskforce Headquarters, at the end of November.
9:Japan China Standardization Workshop (November 8 through 9):
Based on an agreement made at the summit meeting of the Japan China Horological Associations Interchange, a Japan China standardization workshop was held in Xian. This was held to discuss with experts from the Horologe Association of the P. R. China and JCWA concerning important agenda items for the next ISO/TC114 International Conference to be held in Korea in May 2005. JCWA dispatched two representatives for the meeting. At the meeting, JCWA explained the Japanese proposals to be submitted at the conference in Korea. Most of the agenda items were understood and supported by P.R. China
10:Announcement of 2004 Estimated Report on the Global Operations of the Japanese Watch & Clock Industry (December 16):
JCWA announced the estimated report on the global operations of the production and export of the Japanese watch and clock industry in 2004. The total production of watches produced both in Japan and at overseas plants in 2004 is estimated to decrease both in quantity and amount, while that of clocks is estimated to retain the same level in quantity but decrease in amount in comparison with the previous year. The total exportation of watches (including shipments from overseas) in 2004 is estimated to decrease both in quantity and amount, while that of clocks is estimated to increase in quantity but decrease in amount in comparison with the previous year.
