(1) 2010 Annual Report on the Global Operation of the Japanese Watch & Clock Industry (March 3):
JCWA released a report on the export, and domestic shipment in the global operations of the Japanese watch and clock industry in 2010. The total shipments including those from overseas ports in 2010 increased in units, for complete watches by 16% and for complete clocks by 11% respectively. Leaflets containing the data of the exports and domestic shipments as well as the estimated world production of watches and clocks were handed over to the press during BASELWORLD held in Switzerland from March 24 through 31, 2011.
(2) The 13th International Basel Conference of the Horological Industry (March 25):
The 13th International Basel Conference of the horological industry was held on Match 25 during the BASELWORLD in Switzerland. Delegates from major watch and clock associations participated in this conference from 12 countries/region including Japan, Switzerland, Hong Kong, China, USA, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Korea, India, Ukraine.
The delegates discussed agenda items including the statistics on production and export/import of watches and clocks.
(3) Donation for East Japan Earthquakes Victims (March 31):
JCWA made a donation of 3 million yen for East Japan Earthquakes victims through the Japanese Red Cross Society on March 31.
(4) JCWA Reorganization (April 1) :
JCWA was reorganized into general corporate body on April 1.
(5) The ISO International Meeting (May 9) :
A meeting for the ISO technical committee-horology (ISO/TC114) was held at Berlin, Germany, during May 9 through 13. Discussions by experts were focused on watches made of hard materials, the hands fitting standards for clocks and the water resistance of watches, etc. This meeting was attended by 38 delegates from 5 countries.
(6) The 1st JCWA Ordinary General Meeting (May 27):
The business report and financial statements for the fiscal year 2010 was approved at the 1st Ordinary General Meeting held on May 27. The fiscal year 2011 plan for the business and budget scheme was also approved at the meeting. Furthermore, Mr. Shigeki Toyota, President of RICOH ELEMEX AT CORP. was appointed as new Director of JCWA succeeding Mr. Koji Sawa, the former president of RICOH ELEMEX CORP. At the Board of Directors Meeting held after the Ordinary General Meeting, Mr. Mikio Unno (CITIZEN WATCH CO., LTD.) was elected Chairman, and Mr. Shinji Hattori (SEIKO WATCH CORP.) was elected Vice-chairman.
(7) Donation to primary schools (June 10):
- a joint project with JAPAN WATCH IMPORTERS’ ASSOCIATION.
JCWA published a book for children utilizing cartoon and pictures to promote their understanding of the mechanism and history of watch and clock in collaboration with Japan Watch Importers’ Association. 26,500 copies were donated to primary schools and public libraries in Japan.
(8) The 7th Japan China Intellectual Property Rights Workshop (July 2):
The 7th workshop on intellectual property rights (IPR) was held in Shenzhen, P. R. China, for the purpose of discussing various issues related to intellectual property rights with experts of IPR in China Horologe Association. From JCWA, 6 members from the IPR committee and secretariat were delegated to Shenzhen for the workshop to exchange opinions and information relating to recent infringements of intellectual property rights in P. R. China, countermeasures taken, possible improvements and other related issues.
(9) JCWA Extraordinary General Meeting (July 13):
At the Extraordinary General Meeting held on July 13, Messrs. Tatsuo Kasama and Jiro Miyagawa were appointed as new officers succeeding Messrs. Yasuhiro Okawa and Jun Watanabe. Mr. Tatsuo Kasama was appointed as new Director, and Mr. Jiro Miyagawa was appointed as new Auditor respectively. The new appointments were a reflection of the following changes: change of President from Mr. Yasuhiro Okawa to Mr. Tatsuo Kasama in RHYTHM WATCH CO., LTD. change of President from Mr. Jun Watanabe to Mr. Jiro Miyagawa in ORIENT WATCH CO., LTD.
(10)“Watchmaker” workshop (August 25 to August 31):
JCWA and Kids City Japan K.K. jointly hosted a “Watchmaker” workshop designed for elementary school children. The workshop allowed participating children to assemble their own KidZania original wrist watch. 748 children participated?during the workshop.
(11)Announcement of 2011 Estimated Report on the Global Operations of the Japanese Watch & Clock Industry (December 14):
JCWA announced the estimated report on the global operations of the export, and domestic shipment of the Japanese watch and clock industry in 2011.
For the complete watches, the export is estimated to increase in quantity by 2% and in amount by 5% compared to the previous year, and the domestic shipment is estimated to decrease in quantity by 4% and in amount by 3%.
For complete clocks, the export is estimated to decrease in quantity by 12% and in amount by 6% compared to the previous year, and the domestic shipment is estimated to slightly increase in quantity while decrease slightly in amount.
