Many of counterfeit watches and clocks are produced abroad, and a part of them are illegally imported into Japan.

In 2008, the number of seizures by Customs officials upon import into Japan has increased to 2,477 which is 45.2% larger than that in 2007, and the amount of seizures is equivalent to 5.1billion Yen worth of genuine products, according to the Ministry of Finance.
